Full Dentures

(Complete Dentures)

Since a child we have relied on our teeth as a strong friend to help us chew through the ups and downs of life. Today the responsibility of losing our teeth is not caused by bad hygiene, but may have strong links with the high sugar prevalent so much in modern day foods.

Don't give up now! Complete dentures are here to replace your retired friends. We have had many years of getting use to our old teeth so we need also need time to adjust to making these new friends feel like our own. They will cradle your cheeks and support your lips and assist your tongue making sounds. At Rockhampton Denture Clinic our aim is to listen to you, and restore your very best smile and partner you through your journey.

There are two main types of full dentures:
  1. The Immediate: New teeth are placed immediately in your mouth as the natural teeth are removed.
    • There is less bone loss (wearing your new teeth massages your tissues stimulating circulation to promote healing.)
    • Your smile is intact.
  2. The Complete Denture: These dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as your remaining teeth are removed. While immediate dentures offer the advantage of not having to be without teeth during the healing period, they may require adjustments as the tissues heal and shrink over time.
    • These are placed in your mouth after any remaining teeth are removed, and the gum tissues have had time to heal, which may take a few months
    • They improve the look of your mouth, are highly realistic, help you eat and make you feel more confident

In General with Immediate Dentures:

The following day in consultation with your oral surgeon, dentist or Government Clinic we help you remove and replace your new teeth, show you how to care for them and make any initial adjustments to the fit for you.

It's expected rapid bone shrinkage occurs which changes the fit will occur in the first 3 months.

Adding to the inside fit of your teeth is known as a Temporary or permanent reline. Commonly a temporary reline is often placed to help with comfort and fit. A permanent reline may be required at 3, 12 and 24 months as our bone settles to a more permanent shape.

Advanced Dentures:- Obturator

A Cleft palate may be present at birth or caused by trauma and disease. It may require part of the palate to be surgically removed. Our palate helps us speak, swallow and stops food and liquid going up our nose and lodging. We can help restore function with an Obturator.
